Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs Halloween Scents 2013
Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs creates and sells many wonderful, dark and spooky things, but here at the Cult of the Great Pumpkin, we love their annual, signature scented oils. Years ago I bought one called “Burning Leaves” that smells *exactly* like burning leaves – a wonderful, smoky-sweet scent, not too strong, perfect to wear in the Autumn. I’ve been a fan ever since!
This year’s Limited Edition Halloween scents have been released. There are far too many strange and intriguing names to list here, so head over to http://www.blackphoenixalchemylab.com/limited.html as fast as you can to claim your 5ml vials, because once they’re gone, they’re gone!

Beautiful Cover of “Come Little Children” from the Movie “Hocus Pocus”
Another Holy Grail album I’ve been seeking for years is the score for Disney’s 1993 Halloween classic “Hocus Pocus”, and while I’ve still had no luck finding it, I did just find an absolutely gorgeous cover of the signature song “Come Little Children”, originally sung by Sarah Jessica Parker in the movie and a song that never fails to give me goosebumps.
The cover is by Erutan, aka KatetheGreat19. You can listen to it thanks to YouTube right here:
Interestingly, it appears to be a bit of a mystery as to who wrote the lyrics past the first verse, which just adds to the appeal of the song, as far as I’m concerned. You can buy this wonderful track for a lousy 99 cents on iTunes and Amazon (just search Erutan Come Little Children). There is a free version on the Erutan Website; support the artist, though, and buy it!
As an added bonus, you can also find a lovely cover of Sally’s Song from The Nightmare Before Christmas on the Erutan Website.
Again, if you know where/how to acquire a copy of the original score for Hocus Pocus (short of a Torrent or sketchy MP3 website), post it in the comments!

Many members of the Cult of the Great Pumpkin spend a lot of time and energy looking for those long lost music and sound effects albums from our youth – the ones we listened to every October, that are part and parcel of the foundation of our love of Halloween. For me, a key component was Disney’s 1979 version of Chilling, Thrilling Sounds of the Haunted House. Not to be confused with (and often overshadowed by) the somewhat sillier 1964 album with the same name, the 1979 version features 7 “frightening situations” that play out like a walk through a haunted landscape, each “situation” featuring a different theme like a haunted house, witch’s circle, robbing a graveyard, etc. While no official release or legal, purchasable version seems to exist anymore, a lone YouTube user has uploaded it for us all to enjoy, old-school LP hisses and scatches and all. So here it is – enjoy! And if you know of a way to acquire this legally short of finding a vintage LP on eBay, speak up in the comments!
